The leaves will soon change colors and the temperature will quickly drop—and the same adjustment should happen to your lipstick collection. While you may have been rocking bold, bright hues and subtle, barely-there shades this summer, autumn calls for something entirely new. That’s why we turned to New York City-based celebrity makeup artist Neil Scibelli to get the scoop on the trendsetting lipstick colors for fall.
“When it comes to lipsticks for fall, I think we'll be seeing a lot more velvety matte formulas with bold variations of colors. Spring and summer were really all about the glossy, shiny lip, but I think we'll be going back to some more classic lipstick looks this fall,” says Scibelli. Scarred from the matte lipsticks that once left your pout drier than the Sahara? There’s no need to fear, according to Scibelli. “Many brands are making matte lipsticks in more hydrating formulas, so there's less of a risk of a dry look.” Of course, if you still want to play with a shiny, glossy finish for the season, we’re totally here for it—just opt for one of his artist-approved shades for fall: mauves, berry browns, burgundys, classic reds, and deep plums.
We’ve scoped out the top picks below: an expertly compiled list of the best fall lipstick colors to spice up your look for the season.
