The Fall/Winter 2022 Color Trends Are In—and They're Good

Jul 20, 2022
Between mini skirts, platform heels, and bikercore, the micro-trends coming down the runways can be tough to chase. One minute they're hot, hot, hot, and the next, they're done faster than you can say J-Rod. The style set has a slick workaround for this: color trends. Packed with more endurance than the latest fads, the hues owning the catwalks for Fall/Winter 2022 are shockingly easy to wear and sure to stand the test of time. (Some have already gotten a head start this summer.)
This season, designers iterated on autumnal signatures—but not without releasing a few new-to-fall hues. Saffron orange, for example, is a refreshed classic that will feel right at home in your lineup of tartan prints and camel coats. There were a few surprises, too—like the icy blue color that doubled as a neutral at Hermès and Fendi. Of course, fans of the Barbiecore craze will swoon over the hot pink color trend which, after rising to prominence for Spring/Summer 2022, is continuing its world domination. 1.
Parade Noir
The onslaught of rebel style (inspired by Balenciaga, buoyed by Julia Fox and Kourtney Kardashian) has made head-to-toe black the power palette to wear all fall. Go all-out with a black column dress and ankle boots, or tie in a touch of bikercore with with a cropped moto jacket.
2.
Pops of Rouge
The cayenne pepper red that made a splash in Spring/Summer 2022 collections is back for fall—in tiny, yet mighty doses. Fendi channeled it with gloves, Proenza with boots, and Versace with belts. No matter which calls out to you, add a burst of heat to your fall wardrobe with the accouterments below—and be sure to style them with camel tones for a seasonal look.
3.
Icy Blue
Presenting the most unexpected Fall 2022 color trend yet: slate blue. It's a slightly earthier take on Tiffany's signature shade, and it stole the show at Fendi and Hermès. More interesting than where it appeared is how it appeared: as a new neutral, much like your favorite camels and beiges. When styling them, mine inspiration from the runways. Tie in dusty pinks, earthy browns, blacks, and bright whites. Prefer a bit of risk? Go full monochrome.
4.
Saffron
Saffron orange shades are as “fall” as it gets. (Think: crushed leaves and pumpkin spice-everything.) Rotate out your rust-toned coats and shop fresh options from Michael Kors and Erdem. If over-indexing on the bright hue isn't your speed, snag a few accent pieces instead, like Bottega's leather mules or Loewe's Puzzle bag. Either way, committing now is encouraged, as we're expecting this to be one of the leading Fall 2022 color trends.
5.
Barbie Pink
ICYMI, Barbiecore is dominating the street style and celebrity circuits. Anne Hathaway, Sebastian Stan, and Lil Nas X are just a few of the leading names to wear the hue from head to toe—and it's all but losing steam for Fall 2022. Valentino's all-pink collection is leading the charge, yielding a crop of instantly recognizable red carpet moments the world over, and Chanel's selection of tweed salmon coats is giving it a more classic feel.
