Ever since the shows in February, our editors have been hard at work adding the most impactful totes, hobos, and clutches from the runways to their mood boards. As far as what we're charting, mini pillow bags are getting bigger and better, taking the form of tote bags and oversized clutches. Then, in the evening bag world, a trove of glitzy handbags is taking center stage—with beading, braiding, and brocade all in the mix. Don't worry minimalists, we didn't forget about you; clean-lined hobos and demure shoulder bags also lie ahead.

First on our list of Fall 2022 handbag trends: sleek shoulder bags. Low-profile and functional with few flourishes besides each brand's signifier (Celine's Triomphe; Valentino's VLogo), these carryalls are what's missing from handbag collectors' robust assortment of crossbodies and bucket bags. Think of it as each designer's way of one-upping the Fendi Baguette.

Speaking of designers referencing each other, it's been hard not to draw on the whirlwind success of Bottega Veneta's infamous pouch ever since its debut in 2019. For Fall 2022, designers are taking a more-is-more approach to the cushy carryall, blowing them out to maximum proportions. Off-White, Versace, and KHAITE all came out with large-and-in-charge totes and pouches, while Bottega opted for a pillow-shaped clutch that packed a punch.

Parties are back, and designer evening bags are coming with it. As for what's in store, brocade bags from Fendi, beaded buckets from Givenchy, and glitzy crescents at Off-White all are front-of-line for Fall 2022. Pair yours with some icy jewelry and a silk slip dress for any black-tie affair.

Chunky chains first crossed over from the Miami fashion scene to the runways in the early '90s, and they've experienced a reboot in recent years.
